1 Peter 3:15 ...Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect
Genuine love needs freewill of the lovers. One cannot sincerely love another without one’s own freewill or choice. We can’t force or make another to love us just as we want them to, it must always be from one’s own choice for it to be genuine and sincere. It isn’t love when another is left without a choice to not to love. We can’t choke another and say love me or else…Or even programme a machine/robot to love us, it won’t be love then as it is empty.
When I look into my beloved’s eyes when she said “I love you”, I am filled with gratitude as my love for her is being returned when she has the choice not to. She chose to love me when she is free not to yet she chose to. She chose, decided and will in her heart to love me. Then I know it is genuine sincere love as it comes from a person with freewill. Every time she says “I love you”, I know it is by her own choice and not even some loose emotional feelings. I rest assure of her confession of love-in her choice.
God created us to have a loving relationship with Him. As God loves us and want to share His love with us, He granted us freewill to love as love requires of it. He could have created something else with the programme to love Him yet it would be love or even human. Don’t forget that we are created in His likeness which includes having freewill just as He has freewill.
This means opening up to the probability of sin when one choose to do something out of God’s will. Love comes with freewill and freewill comes with the possibility of sin. But God loves us enough to provide us love (via relationship), capacity and capability of love (via freewill) and also solution to the problem of freewill (via sin) which is Christ’s finalized work on the cross for us (via His death comes life) and continuous sanctification work in us (via the Holy Spirit). His resurrection gives us living hope of an eternal loving relationship with Him in Heaven after the end of times without the possibility of sin any longer (via His glorification/perfection work in us).
We will then be like Him, able to not sin and unable to sin. Thus out of love, He granted us freewill to love, to cherish the beauty of life by being a person and the testimony of choosing to be obedient to God. Out of love, He opened the way and provides all that we need to be holy in Him. May the Lord be glorified forever and ever. Amen!
Romans 8:28-31 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. 31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
